About Mrs. Perry

Hi! I am Sara Perry, the owner of Progress with Mrs. Perry. I am a Special Education Resource Teacher in Johnston County primarily serving students in grades K-5 in the public school setting. Teaching is a second career for me and one that I am forever thankful came upon me. I will be earning a Masters in Teaching Special Education from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (Go Braves!) on May 9, 2025 and have been a teacher for just over 3 years.

So why teaching? As a mother of 3 kiddos, one of whom has a disability, I have been involved in the special education process long before I considered teaching. When the opportunity to teach was offered to me while I was a teacher assistant, I knew this was not something I could let pass by. It has been an ever evolving path of learning not only curriculum, but how to create a welcoming, inclusive space, so that my students are learning in the ways they are able, and feel supported each step of the way.

I am often busy, by choice. I am a board member of not one, but two PTA’s; a board member for a local non-profit that provides recreational opportunities to children with visual impairments or blindness called the Eye Shine Foundation; serve on an advisory board for a current research study into the well-being and health among low vision and blind youth; and am on the North Carolina Association of Educators Racial Justice Planning Committee. Volunteering and finding ways to give back are a passion of mine.
